Missed a good one.
« on: Aug 16, 2015, 08:02 PM »
Hit the salt water today with John. ( Budski). Ran out to Graves light and set up drifting and chunking. seas were flat as far as you could see. What a perfect morning. the drift was perfect all the way out to B bouy. also put on a flounder rig in hopes for a late summer flatty in the deeper water. None. Got a hit on the rod. Rod doubled over and drag was screaming. felt some head movement fish turned and ran tightened down a little on the drag and fish started turning the back of the boat. another good head thrash and bang it was gone. :'( :'(. Managed several small hake and sea robins on the flounder rigs. Ran back in towards Nahant casting SP minnows into to the rocks and worked them out but nothing. Then ran back across to the back side of Long Island. Trolled around the rock island there with tube and worm. Boat in front of me managed a couple small stripers but thats all we saw. Great day out there though.  :thumbup_smilie:

Sounds like a good day, calm seas and good weather.  Too bad the fish didnt cooperate.

Way to get out Jeff.  I need to replace the rear diff in the jeep before I tow down the the salt.  With mention of the head shakes I wonder if it was a large blue?

Your not thinking small tuna are you. Would be early but not unheard of. They come in there. Saw them once jump and flipping a mile away from the fleet & completely demolish a school of mackerels. Scales like glitter in water. Could explain why the striper are scares they stay away from the tuna. Tuna chasing blues is something I've seen on YouTube so far but maybe someday.
