Homemade Float Tube?
« on: Jul 28, 2005, 03:56 PM »
I was looking at some inner tubes that I have in my cellar, and got an idea. I fish a few small ponds, but would have a hard time getting my boat to them. I really don't want to buy an actual float tube, since I won't use it too much, and really doesn't seem worth the price to me. So here's my question: Do you think it would be worth tryng to make a float tube? And if so, how could I go about doing so? Thanks!

I'd think with some canvas or cordura nylon, it's be pretty easy.  It's all a question of how fancy you want to get.  At the bare minimum, you need a spot to sit... pretty much a swiss sling would do.  Id' definitely consider adding a backrest - helps to stay out for a while.

Try this out. Take a Life jacket, (the fisherman kind, not the orange kind) and secure the front sides to the left and right of the tube. you can put your legs through the arm holes and sit on the back. I just tried to do a pic in Paint, but it wan't good enough to get the jist. If you need more help from me to explain, let me know.
