Penn’s are good reels for the money. I have two Penn 330 reels and I beat these reels to death. I have the old ambassadeur level wind reels with brass gears. They sell today for about 200. I also have the shimano charter special reels. My opinion one of the better shimano reels to chose from. What ever reels you decide to get you get what you pay for. You can over spend too. shimano has a couple reels that are over priced.

Daiwa Sealines....had mine for quite a few years...no problems whatsoever.  FYI, I tried a couple of Okuma reels since I had a spinning reel made by them which I was happy with and the Okuma reels suck in my opinion....quality was suspect and not consistent....stay away from the Okuma's

I agree with Dr. ICegeek.  The Diawa sg47lcs are the best for the money.  I have had 10 sg27lcs for at least 10 years and they still work great.  Penns and Shimanos are good but more $$$.  The Okuma Convectors are ok but stay away from the Magda series reels.  The drags skip or lock up.  You will need to spend about $100 a reel to get quality reels.  I had one drag clicker break on one of my 27 lc's.  I called Diawa and they sent me the parts for free.  It was very easy to replace.

If you are looking for a reel that will perform flawlessly for a good price ($150-180), check out the Shimano Tecota. This reel feels like some of their top dollar rigs, and the drag is smoooooooth!

I like the Shimano TDL's and charter specials for the price, but love my Penn GDL's and GT's, for light trolling.  If I need heavier than 20 class, it's all Penn.  I do have two Okuma Tituses, they have done a good job for me.
