Yesterday, a buddy and I machetied our way back to a lake about a mile and a quarter off the road. The lake does have private access, but that's it, PRIVATE access! From the state land parking area,  it was exactly 1 mile from the road to the beginning of our newly made trail then about a quarter mile of the thickest, nastiest swamp you could ever imagine. Below is the trail I plotted with my GPS right up to where we started hacking away. We ended up around that small bay to the South of the lake. It looks much easier from up above than ground level! Nice part about it was that it was early enough before all the skeeters and vegetation arrives, bad part about it, I am on my way to the doc's office today because I literally have poison ivy and sumac from my head down, yes, head down to places I'd rather not mention! :-X But I figure it won't be the last time b/c we haven't even fished the lake yet! :D

up until recently, I've more of a worm dunker, spin casting kinda fisherman. But with the new info I've recently been reading, I'm gonna gear up with fly equipment this season and hit some backwoods hard to get to places.....especially this fall around the Rangelely area.

got a boot in the ass from a fellow member..... ;)

guess I'd have to consider myself an "opportunistic" trout fisherman, as opposed to an "obligate" one.  I don't care too much for the stockers, unless I want some easy action on the fly line, and if I happen to have a boat on a lake where there are trout, I'll give 'em a shot.  Can't be a good little pan fried brookie. Big ones are a blast to catch, but save 'em for the smoker..........Will hike to trout if it happens to be tied in with a decent camping/canoeing excursion, though :)
We may say of angling, as Dr. Boteler said of strawberries, “Doubtless God could have made a better berry, but doubtless God never did;” and so, if I might be judge, God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling.  -Izaak Walton

Trout in the 4 main lakes i fish are very rare but are huge if you catch them. Heading up north with my uncle this spring/early summer for some stream, small river, big river, small lakes, big lakes or any body of water that holds trout and will be out with 1 quad for sure maybe 2 or a trike, tent, fishing supplies, survival gear, canoe and small swords for bush wacking mostly will be out on foot and lucky me gets to carry the canoe and most the gear. im gonna fish for them like i fish for walleyes start out one place end up 5miles down river in a matter of a few hours and repeat.

I like to hike into streams and ponds where I usually don't run into people up in the Adirondacks.

Enjoy the 3 wt action. It you really want a blast 5wt steallies can't be beat.

I lost the thrill for trout fishing once streams that were public access were allowed to be posted.
Id rather pan fish now. But 2-4lb ultra trout can be a blast.
Dunking is the method of choice, worms up salties downm

I do it all except not much fly fishing.  I've done that but not much.  Boats anchored and trolling on rivers or lakes.  In creeks and streams.  With bait and hardware and through the ice.  Any time any place if the opportunity comes up I'M there.
GOT ICE????

Since there is six times as much water as there is land any man can plainly see that the good lord intended for man to fish six times as much as he works-

We're rural, but not wilderness, so there are bridges over the trout streams.  I like to fish from one bridge to the next... gives me opportunity to bushwhack and gets me to holes that the bridge fishermen never see. I use spawn sacks in the spring and worms during the summer.
