Targeting a specific depth
« on: Aug 19, 2006, 05:27 AM »
I'd like to hear a few opinions and options from you guys on how to troll consistently at a 25-30' depth in 35 FOW. I don't have line-counters, lead-core or down-riggers.
I've been using Deep Down Husky Jerks, but I don't think they're getting deep enough. Same with harnesses and weight... I've also tried drifting/vertical jigging with some success, but that method doesn't cover enough water.

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom!  8)

Get yourself some #11 Deep Tail Dancers!  With 10lb Fireline you should be able to get 30ft out of them and with mono you can probably get at least 20 to 25ft which is right where you want to be from the sounds of it.  The other option is run a 3 or 4 ounce bottom bouncer and reel it up a few cranks after you contact bottom with a spinner rig or stickbait off of it.

Deep tail dancers are the ticket.  Excellent lure!!
BBs will do it as well.  Just make sure you maintain the 45 degree angle when you're trolling.
care for a warm up?

Thanks, guys! Much appreciated.
I'll be picking up some Tail Dancers.
I know what snap weights are, but I've never seen them for sale...

they make an x rap magnum 30 now too.  Supposed to dive to 30 feet.  I've seen the write up on it in In Fisherman but have not seen it in stores yet.   If you see one of them it might be worth a shot also.

There's a great article in the last In-Fisherman that covers this, defiantly worth the read.
'If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.' -- Ronald Reagan

'Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July, but the democrats believe every day is April 15.' -- Ronald Reagan

There were a couple different sizes in that In-Fisherman article.   I've yet to see them so I'm not 100% sure on that.  But if its anything like the standard X rap it'll be a great lure.
