iceshanty vs myfishfinder
« on: Mar 12, 2009, 03:13 PM »
i have heard that this site is a lot more tight lipped then the shanty... was wondering why as i have noticed a lot of transfer guys, so if the same guys are using both sites why does this site stay so tight lipped and on the shanty everyone talks? just curious...

I don't think the members are being tight lipped, I think they have other things to do in the summer that they don't have during the winter to do. Like yard work, household work, vacations, kids sport practices and games, etc. etc. etc. I post whenever I go during the summer, but I don't go as often as I do icefishing because of all of the above items.

I have seen a whole lot of guys new from ice shanty so far. I'm one of them.
Maybe this year will be different.

Winter is far more boring for me, summer im either working, fishing or spendin time doin other stuff rather than stuck inside on the computer
Fishing isn't a hobby it's an addiction

I don't think we are tight lipped,  I think a lot of it has to do with the numbers,  Over 25,000 members on IceShanty  and I believe about just over 5,000 here. That makes for a lot less posts plus all the summer chores, Vacations and time out shopping for new Ice fishing gear  ;D

typically ice fishing is more of a buddy thing imo... i used to fish bass tourneys in the midwest and only had one feller i "seriously" fished with... kept most of my areas and structure finds under wraps and very seldom talked about lures, colors, jiggin' techniques and such... high powered bino's were kept in all serious bassin' mens gear bag tho! lol

ice fishing is more laid back... cooking brats on the ice... sharing stories... and it's easier to fish in groups... not to say soft water fishing doesn't share the same tendencies, it's just more obvious at the shanty. this year i intend to fish more lakes and streams for trout which i have never really done in the past... been a wyomingite since '89 and still miss Table Rock Lake, the Ozarks and crappies large enough that if they don't weigh close to 1lb+ and cover your hand, they get tossed back! i'm not a fly fisher either! big chunks of spinners and large topwater zara spooks that'd scare a lesser fish but makes a large bass go crazy! that's a good day of fishing! check out bottomdwellers hardwater hotspots posts in IS.com and MFF.com in the wyoming section... NOW THAT'S A GREAT DAY OF FISHIN'!!!!  ;D

big catfish on trot and set lines aren't found in wyoming either... but man, i do dig the hardwater and the type of fellows that hit it and do well!

iceshanty is a blast! hope to be more of a part of MFF.com too...

jmho....
