Sturgeon
« on: Apr 03, 2009, 08:53 PM »
Hey everybody!

So, I have been trying to hook up with Sturgeon for a few years now, and you guessed it, still NOTHING!  So, im tired of just waiting for one to come around, and im looking for tips and tricks.

I will most likely be fishing the North Sask River, anywhere from Genesse to Edmonton, and would really appreciate any info anyone has. I have often snorkelled down the river and seen fish, but NEVER been able to hook into one.

Any info would be awesome, thanks.

I have never TRIED for them...but have caught one...he was in the 30lb range.

It was near genesse.  I was just throwing VERY OLD...rotten leeches on a pickeral rig, and catching goldeyes...when...WHAM...he took it.

I thought I was caught on a log, to tell the truth...for about 5 mins..untill the line started to spool off like i had never seen before.

I was using 12lb test...and it took like 45 mins walking down river with it to land.

I am heading back to the same spot on sunday for a bit...(the 24th of MAy 2009)...I'll let you know how i make out.

cheers!!

Good Luck All!!

I'm trying to down load the pics...My girlfriend is smarter then me,i'll let her do it!It was around 5 ft so it coulda been anywhere from 80-lb-100lb....I just said 100lb's because it sounds better...I'll get my G-friend to post pictures...Sturgeons get much bigger but i have never caught one before that day so i was pretty pumped.

I thought the sturgeon in the Edmonton region only get to like 100lbs-max kinda a thing...but IDK.

I think when watching a show on the fraser river....they caught one that was almost 500lbs  (I could be wrong..i can not remember excactly)...and the guide was like "that's a pretty NICE ONE".....nice?  ***censored****...lol

I would love to hook into one, while in a pontoon boat , on the NSR....that's be a fun trip i bet..lol

congrats again warren...can not wait to see the pictures.

cheers!!
