i know i've asked this before, but it kind of died, so since i actually have one now, i'll ask again. what are your favorite rigs to use with a cane pole, bait? plastics? flies?

Line about 2' longer than the pole, adjustable bobber (I use Sheffield bobbers) and a small bucktail  or ice jig with bait, Mostly I use mine for "dipping" the brush piles for crappies. I use 6lb green Stren. I put guides on mine and attached a Buck's Mini Caster so I can vary the length of the line. Works pretty well.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

I haven't used an actual cane pole for years, but I do use the newer style telescopic crappie poles. I have a 10' B&M Black Widow and a 12' Uncle Bucks' model with the mini caster and guides. I actually prefer the B&M without guides(other than a tip top). I just use a small spring bobber, small split shot,#8 hook or ice fly, and either redworms or waxies and slay the gills. The funny thing is my kids(even my 14 yo.)prefer the cane poles over the spincasting rods I buy them .

Aye Aye! I bought my youngest grandson a 12'  telescoping pole because he's not ready for a casting type reel yet. He's had such a riot hoisting in big bluegills that now his 13 year old brother wants one. The bluegill beds are under lily pads and you just can't cast to them without hooking a pad. Dipping the worms straight down on them does the job. The real trick is hoisting the fish straight up! There's nothing quite like fishing with a cane/telescoping pole...eh? :D Same as someone said..... a spring bobber with a redworm on a #6 aberdeen hook under it has long been the bread and butter rig for panfish.
