I've never, at least in my adult life, fished a trout pond this time of the year. Cant really remember if I have or not. I have plenty of luck from spring to mid-summer, but don't have any idea what I should try this late.Anyone willing to give up anything? Depth? Lures?
Smokey, I used to guide for Brookies in the fall in Canada, some anglers just love the fall spawning colors. Most of the trout were in shallow (below 55 degree water) and were forging for young of the year crawfish. We used 1/16 oz. jigs with a pumpkinseed 2 inch plastic body. Some green bodies also work. We also carried mepps spinners and worms. The fish should be in close either spawning or close to it. Great advice about checking the regulations !! Good luck !! JTP
trout are always eating; they are worse then people. I have been getting trout this entire week with dry flies and nymphs; some of the biggest fish of the season. It's a great time to fish since the water is at an ideal temp. around 53 deg. and the fish are still rising to late day hatches. Bigger baits like buggers and streamers this time of year will get you those bigger fish. Give it a go; you won't regret it!
If ya can troll ... Lake Clear Wobbler - chrome/blue - with a 1/2 Crawler threaded up on a size 6 bait holder hook.
