this past march, i turned my eye to larger trout, the ones that make you worry that your ultralight trout gear may not be enough.
i landed one fish out of the ten that i hooked. local regulations call for barbless hooks and ban bait until May, so it was much more of a challenge than i anticipated.
here's the fish i landed, 4 lbs 8 oz. and one of the most perfect wild trout i've ever had the fortune to catch

i caught it on a 3" plastic minnow in a smelt color on a 1/8 oz. jighead fishing from shore. i used a hop-and-swim retrieve along the top two feet or so of the water column.
