Winni smallies
« on: May 23, 2016, 07:03 AM »
Well I went up to winni Saturday with two buddy's for some smallies even though I know the water was still cool ! Put the boat in in Meredith around 730 am fished off a couple points with nothing Hitting so went to Sally's gut and seen a couple big fish in the water nothing on beds yet like I suspected but throwing plastic and a few stick baits ! Finally talked them into fishing big rocks with deep water near bye ! Put on a few wiggle warts that dive 10 ft and started hitting really big smallies ! Ended up with 10 myself all between 2.5 to 4 lbs big thick healthy fish not a hook mark in any of them ! My buddy's got 5 others between them also on crank baits but I had a few old wiggle warts they wanted crayfish color was the best !!  Water was 56 then almost 59 at the end of the day I'd say a week or 2 with good weather should move them in shallow !   Just wanted to give a report didn't take any pics but like I said big rocks sticking out of water in 10 -18 ft was the ticket !
im not drunk i just navigate that way.

Ya jibbs  my fav crank bait too  . Only use them in deep water where I can get them if I get hung up kinda of parionoid about loosing them . I only have 3 left from years ago but I just ordered a few more from eBay !  Have you ever fished the fin fish from storm ? I see a few older lures on there and I'm not fimilar with those ?

I caught a few bedding bass at Winter Harbor. I did better on Wentworth in my kayak. Caught about a dozen, biggest was 19" and pushing 4lbs for sure. Males on beds there too with females feeding deeper. This week females should be joining the males on beds

Not sure what the water temperature was at winter harbor. Gotta be at least 58-59. Males probably wouldn't have been there otherwise

You are spot on with the 58-59 degree guess. We only buzzed through the middle and it was 56ish where it meets the broads and little warmer in front of the library.

its the best cold water crankbait on the market...I have 4 orginals and I get scared throwing them..so nervous to lose them...the new ones work great as well..i use those as feelers and when its tournament time I go to the the orginal..I would think smallies are bedding all over the place from 19 mile bay to lees mills...when I did my tournament 2 weeks ago winter harbor had beds...good luck out there

I'm not sure if I'm gonna fish up there or down here yet. Waiting to hear where my dad wants to fish. Good luck out there, hoping he wants to fish there. Fishing should be awesome out there. Caught a few nice 3 pounders. Looking for that 5 though lol
