I went to MC last Friday afternoon and also on Sunday morning.  Friday was very windy. Casted for about an hour - nothing. No one else was out there at the time.  Sunday we fished the Coast Guard area. Saw one jump but that was it. Lots of people fishing but no fish. Water was full of debris from recent rains. Went to the lamprey barrier to see some fish jumping but that was a bust too. Did not see a single fish there.

A friend got a text from someone she new that fished the pier very early on Sunday. Supposedly had over five fish. Wen we went to the pier no one had a fish or had seen a fish caught - other than some kids fishing for gobies. Heard of a few from the creek.

Sorry to be such a downer but that's the way it was.  I might go out this afternoon if I get a chance.

I can remember when I used to fish for them. As soon as the sun cracked the horizon on the lake the first 15 minutes was the hottest time to be there. IMHO if you aren't there early enough for this you are wasting your time. I have seen if when you could be there for hours and not a bump. On the other hand, if you are there early enough you will get a limit in 30 minutes. Just my 2 cents. I haven't fished for them in years. I used to fish Dean Mitchell and tore them up. LONG TIME AGO...

Some fish being caught in creek. Rain blew it out recently. Got another warmup coming so who knows.

I went this Tuesday (10/4/16), and our group of 3 caught 2 cohos and 1 steelhead after fishing sun up to sun down with a lunch break.  That makes for a long day when the fish aren't biting!
Catching the lunkers of tomorrow today!

They'll move back in once the temps drop and we get a decent steady rain. Should be better than last year. Went to the Pere Marquette last weekend, hooked two kings one was easily over 25 pounds, straightened the hook a few feet from me after a 15min battle. the second one was maybe 10 pounds and threw it once it jumped. Two weeks and the fishing should heat up in the creek and pier area

Wife called after she got off work. Said to meet her at the Coast Guard station - what a great lady!  Fished for several hours. Nothing. Went to the pier and saw one guy just start casting. Did not even see any jumpers.  Good afternoon with the wife but we sure would like to see some trout and salmon show up.

Did see one guy with a bunch of decent perch - no jumbos.  He was using very small minnows on the bottom.

Thinking of going back after the rain on Friday. Planning on staying late - maybe over night.

No, he was at the corner near the restaurant near the Coast Guard station.  Looked to be a little older. Drove an SUV.  Nice guy with a big smile when he showed me his catch.

The steel head are running on the st. Clair rivery same with salmon the water temp has been hover in around 61.5*f .. it should get a tad lower this week end with Temps down in the 47*f to 50*f range at night with that nw. Wind coming in ..

but try to dig up an noaa weather bouy for southern lake michigan it should tell you the surface Temps... if I rember right those piers do better on a nw wind then a nne wind like last week end cause it moves cooler water in.. I would try it this week end in michigan city for sure.

See if you can dig up water Temps that may help and any wind out of the north west try to fish.. I use water Temps cause steel head chase lures till around 45*f  so for 65*f to 45*f they attack lures and any think below say 45*f the bait has to be right on their nose so watch tactics caused by water temp... so good move fishing cleo's but what about bombers or even yo zuri minnows in a alewife type color?

I twich mine to get them to flash more like hard yank reel 5 feet hard yank and keep repeating. That or a heavy spinner bait like Oslo glo's spinners with a minnow on it and a sinner hook.. water Temps around here are perfect for sTeel head but I don't know the Temps down in michigan city off hand..

Then later in the year I switch to spawn bags and alewife's on a float when the water temp gets below 45*f cause they get lathargic from the high oxygen content of the water.. and the fish tend to seek soft or slack water pools of rivers..try out side pier heads on the beaches etc leading to them.. when the spawn and alewife's are working.. we set are ice shanty on shore and fish the night away.. with lanterns etc..

But ya if not this week end they will be jn very very soon..
