DOWNRIGGER MOTOR
« on: Mar 23, 2009, 01:04 PM »
Okay.Got my fishlander electric downriggers mounted and wired up this weekend.Problem is that one works and the other doesn't.Bought them used and the guy swears(and I believe him) they both worked when he pulled them off his boat in Sept.Plugged it into the power supply that the one worked in to make sure it wasn't a problem with my wiring. Then I bypassed the up/down switch and wired it straight to the battery and nothing. It has a red light that goes on near the counter and that works fine.So the only thing left to do is to pull out the motor.Hope it the wiring inside and not a burnt out motor(not sure I can find a replacement. So my question is...What am I going to see when I pull the motor out?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

most electric downriggers come with lifetime warranty on the motors. I run cannon mag10's and they are covered...but since they are used it may only pertain to the original owner. plus I dont know about fishlander?  i do know walker, cannon, scotty and big jon have lifetime warranties.

hey this is northwoods i am at snaggers house, when you take the rigger apart see if you smell a burnt smell if not see if you can turn it by hand the brushes inside the motor are probably dirty let me know when you get that far.
