Rod/reel combo
« on: Oct 10, 2009, 07:32 PM »
Is there a rod/linecounter reel setup that will work with both planer boards and dipsey divers? Most dipsey rods seem to be 10' and fairly heavy. Will a shorter, slightly less stiff rod work? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've used an ugly stick (8' or9') with Jet divers and a #1 Dipsey for some time now and never had a problem. You do need a stiff enough rod to stick 'em. They seem to be fine with planer boards, too.
It can be hard to find "combination use" rods these days.

good luck

i've got 4 okuma magda pro combos...30size reel.  8'6" rods.  medium action.  10-25lb test.  I use two for leadcore off planers and two for pulling dipseys.  They were fine for both, except the magnum size dipsey seem to strain the rod a little.

Thanks for the help! I think I will give the 8'6" medium action rods a try.
