That is awesome RG.

Well we had a fun weekend, saw a lot of deer. Everyone in our crew saw bucks, a few were passed and a few narrowly escaped!

I did get a coyote.

It means more to me than the kill, that is for sure. It is a “family tradition” for us.

I’ll tel you what else hunting is about....friendship.

I helped my neighbor butcher his massive deer this afternoon. It was nice and cool and we got more meat off that buck than I’ve ever seen off any deer. The neck alone weighed 25 lb....maybe more.   He gifted me with two of the 6 blackstrap  chunks, 4” dia x 12” long ( biggest I’ve ever seen) , a few packages of steaks, the tenderloins and several packages out nicely trimmed stew meat.

We sat at my house and had a cocktail when we were done. A day well spent in friendship. Hope he gets a couple more.

My wife and I got to watch a family of eagles Saturday morning. Two adults and two juveniles. You can see a huge nest in the woods now that the leaves are gone. The great birds are adapting to civilization well. There are regular sightings here.
My wife saw this on facebook. Very creative idea.

He's right - the barred owl is a pretty good sized bird.  The one I saw was obvious that it wasn't a great horned owl but it was pretty big.

owls,    seen a lot over years have had them come in while calling for turkeys!
to see them , silent and  scary at same time

go to  You tube for live videos/calling

screech owl , to me sounds like a purr

barred owl is quite a simple as this "
        CALL IS
"who cooks for you, who cooks for you all "

      BARRED OWL,  ROUND FACE

SCREECH OWL ,  SOMETIMES SHOWS TWO HORNS ON HEAD

Screech owls are half the size of a barred owl , which max out at 20”s ,
Some Snowy owl juveniles hang out at the Syracuse airport ,during the winter , they are impressive
Lot of camera buffs get pics of them

Great job to all who got Deer!! Got out yesterday with my son for a couple hours....I have never been in the woods this quiet!!! No absolutely nothing, no squirrels, no blue jays, no chickadees!  One owl in the dark is it.  surreal!

You are correct - didn't hear him come in and he was only 20 yds or so away - didn't hear him leave either.  He flew to another branch a little closer, then next time I looked over he was gone.  Every once in a while when he looked away I did a little mouse squeak and his head would whip around ....
