Cayuga Pickerel
« on: May 27, 2018, 08:52 AM »
Yo Guys & Gals,

Fished Cayuga yesterday with my neighbor, the Red head. We accessed at Frontenac Park. Good news, they finally put in some new mooring cleats. Anyway onward with the report.  This was my first time out on Cayuga this year and we were on the hunt to fill our cooler with some perch.  We covered a lot of water in search of a good bite. It wasn't long before we encountered a good bite, in a bad way. We started early and continued through out the day catching them toothy pickerel. In fact, we caught more pickerel than perch keepers. 18 to 12. This almost matched our last years record of 19 pickerel between the 2 of us.  The only difference is last year we managed a pail full of perch.

The best news is the weather was great. The breeze was light and created a modest chop. Later in the afternoon the water and wind flattened out and brought out the bad news, May flies.  Still, all in all, a great day with a good fishing partner. We managed 12 nice perch , the largest 13 inches , the average 10 inches.

Post Script:Just a side note. The 18 pickerel was only the ones we managed to net and release. An equal amount managed to rip off our perch rigs or just out in out get off the hook.
