Hitting the river Thursday for an end of spring break surprise fishing trip for the 11yr old. Got a charter and hopefully they are still eating hard...

If you are hoping for salmon at Berrien Springs you are going to be disappointed as there will be no salmon at Berrien Springs until late August or early September

However, the steelhead fishing is great right now!

With the water warming up they are starting to really move. Lots coming on up into Indiana waters right now too in the South Bend area

Steelhead are lake run rainbow trout.

Samoa -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samoa

And salmon has an "L" in it.

You could definitely get some steelhead in the St Joe in BS.
Also could get some cats if you wanted.
And I'm sure there are some walleye if you wanted.
But no Salmon this time of year.

Thanks for the tip, I'm not much of a sa"L"mon  fisherman or a steelhead fisherman (obviously) lol . Basically had a little money burning a hole in my pocket and decided to take the little guy out for something different with a fight to wind down spring break.

Good job getting the small one out! And you should run into a few with a charter hired. I hope you don't spend your whole time at the dam as the river downstream has some good fish runs and is scenic for lower Michigan. Good luck and hope for a report.

We had a choice to stay at the dam or work the river... we chose the dam and really enjoyed the day. Counts are off of memory. .. 7 hookups that got off after long fights,  we kept 4 fish and released at least 7. Had 2 adults and 2 kids... lots of fun and the captain Mike was awesome to spend the day with. Here are a few pictures from the day...
