fry up those weeds
« on: Apr 28, 2019, 11:53 AM »
I got my first batch of dandelions today.  its something my grandparents taught us as kids.  I try and have a few batches a season.  I never liked the greens, they seemed too bitter.  the flowers on the other hand are like morel mushrooms.  if you haven't tried them you should give it a try.

I pick the heads and prep them by trimming all but the very bottom off.  if you trim them too close to bottom they will fall apart(no good lol)  dip them in onion ring batter and fry them up.  they are very nutritious too!

Lol, grandma might have made a mistake or maybe it sat in cellar too long, it was something we came across one day.

I don't mind young dandelion greens in salads. Yes they have a little bitterness to them which gets stronger with age. I like young burdock stalks fried much better. Carduni Fritti....very good. Springtime foraging.....nice.

I use to harvest burdock for a dentist , any harvesting should be done before the flowers develop, it also used as an anti-inflammatory ,
