well that was a goofy opening morning.  everything was super quiet until the sun came out hard.  then it was snow bombs everywhere. lol  i mite have scored if weren't for that.  i had a nice group of turkey moving about in the field making their way to me.  about a hundred yards out a treetop gave way and they spooked off into the woods, the way they came.  figured i would just get out while i could and go to work. tomorrow they mite not be so lucky, i got the day off. ;D

they wouldn't talk back and they never made a sound coming off the roost today.  i never heard a shot from the neighbors either.

dont right off afternoon/evening hunts. the farther into season the harder it is to call a tom off hens.

Nothing but snow opening morning. Heard two shots. Today very frosty. Went out at 7:00am.Turned out nice and sunny. Hunted until noon. Nada. Two of my friends doubled up. Trying a third spot tomorrow.

I was fortunate enough to take one today. Called in a pair that were on the other side of a deep, steep ravine. It took a lot of soft purring to get them to cross down in to it, but once they started they were down and back up on my side and on a march right to me.

Six days of hard hunting and long sitting finally paid off! Killed this guy at 11:30 this morning, 26 pounds and 10 inch beard. He never gobbled but put on a heck of a good show in full strut for probably 100 yards and I killed him at 38 yards! Unreal when it happens! Here’s a picture! Hex

hope you didnt toss the dark meat.  crock pot it with beef stock, seasonings and onions and its grub!!!  im going to make a pot pie out of mine later in the week. crock it till tender(usually 5hours) then debone and reduce the crock juices to gravy.  then pour it in pie crust with veggies.  one of those meal that ends with your hand on your belly. ;D
