that didnt fool me, as soon as i saw the picture i knew that couldnt be real. It would have been all over the paper and news, and, naturally i really do not believe that a perch could reach taht size, that would be like a 10 ft tall person......... ;D

looks like a camera trick to me. that fish is at least 4 feet in front of that kid. Any proof to back it up?

One more comment and lets put this hoax to rest. My father was an EXTREMELY avid fisherman and lifelong perchman; and he had a rod with a perchrig (what everybody else calls crappie rig) in my hands since age four. Well, I've been at perchin' 40 years now, and my latest wife for 8 years. With literally thousands of hours at it in the big perch waters of Lake Ontario and Simcoe in Ontario, I've logged prolly a couple dozen over 16 and only two that just made 17 from Simcoe. My wife: one at 17-1/2 from Simcoe. Statistically, take the thousands of mostly perch anglers and  you would expect that you would have heard of some 18 to 20's, let alone 26! I never have. Sort of defies the odds.

jebus!!!  Someone somewhere is laughing their butts off!

Look at the rod!!!  If that thing weighed anywhere near the claimed weight,  that rod would be bent to the ground (unless it was a standup TUNA rod that is, and it doesn't even appear to have roller guides, so I'm guessing it isnt :D)! And I though I was gullible!

Yeah guys, wow, that's like a 13" perch I think....wow. I can't believe that got all of you for so long....that pole would have its tip below the handle if a 5.5 pound fish was hanging off it.
Geez, I expected better from you guys... ;D

also on top of the comment i already made about the date and the fact that there are alot of fishermen from that area that are hearing about this fish for the first time 5 months later is the fact that little kid is holding the rod with 1 hand

THIS JUST IN!!!  3 more NYS fish records have been broken!!

Smallmouth bass - 17 lbs, 32 inches...
Northern pike - 61 lbs, 61 inches...
Walleye - 28 lbs, 44 inches...

I caught each one of these, I called the dec, they said ok, and will update the record books soon...  :thumbup_smilie: :clapping:
Oh Lord - there he is, it feels like a big one, please don\'t let me lose him, I\'ve never caught one this big before.  I\'ll try not to horse him, and if I land him, I promise to release him, and make a graphite replica, if my wife says it\'s ok.  Thank you for the Rapalas...
