So basically what you are saying is the weather has been sucking more? Yeah, I agree with that!

Im going to be that guy and say guides are going to be more of a crutch vs a valuable learning experience...just going off my own time spent guiding.  A majority of the clients I took fishing only cared about 1 thing, catching.  That said less time spent on educating vs directing them on what to do to catch.

For those of you learning, determine what you want to fly fish for, where you want to fly fish, grab some beers and hop on youtube and start learning.

Years ago when I wanted to learn euro nymphing I did just that.  I learned from all of the pro's and would learn something new and go apply it to my local waters.  I still do this today.

Besides you'll want to save the money spent on guides for gear anyways!  I'm always willing to lend a hand to anyone who wants to meet up on the CT trout water.

Im also starting to get excited for smallies on the fly.

Nice carp, not a bad way to spend a few hours!

How many of you knew that weather system wind does not blow it sucks?  Seriously wind gets pulled from high pressure to low pressure like a vaccum. And the stronger the pressure gradients between the high and low pressure the stronger the wind.

So perhaps we have been getting weather systems with stronger pressure gradients?

So basically what you are saying is the weather has been sucking more? Yeah, I agree with that!

Long version

Brings back a memorable day in July in 1985 on the Saint Lawrence in Cape Vincent. It was a rainy and very windy day and i  decided to leave the boat on the trailer. I sat on the old concrete dock at the boat launch fishing with an ultra light spinning rod with 4lb mono, small hook and a worm. I was catching lots of sun fish, and blue gills. I got the usual tap on the line and set the hook and off she went - burning drag. It was at least 10 minutes until that fat tail came out of the water and I finally knew what I was fighting. It was a BIG Carp. It kept making long runs and I got down to so little line left, I could see the base of the spool.
It was probably close to 1/2 hour until I got the fish in. A teen aged boy climbed down on the rock and grabbed the carp and brought it up onto  the dock. I weighed it - drum roll : just over 31lbs.
I let the fatso go and have never forgotten that amazing battle.
