The DEC and I think maybe the local college FLCC does a annual shocking of fish. They log the fish (trout mostly) and check there overall health. This is done every year before the opening day of trout fishing April 1.

I see . Is it just Naples Creek or do they do others? Do they actually shock the fish with electricity or is it done with chemicals?

I read in teh DEC website that they are also going to do Keuka Outlet I think it was.  can't remember when

  They actually use electricity! They have a backpack mounted generator ( carring that is where the college student come in) a guy has a neg. bar that he drags in the water while moveing a long wand with a hoop on the end. When it passes by the fish it stuns them for a few seconds. and they net them and put them in a holding net. They stop evey so often and weigh the fish and take scale sample and sex. They shock four streams in this reigon that I know of.

DEC shocks Little Sodus almost annually.  I've seen them there while fishing for perch and Rockies.  You should see some of the smallies the shock up in May   I've talked to them briefly at the dock, very friendly and informative about what they've shocked up.

In Naples this is a big event, People line the the banks of the creek to watch .I think they even let the kids out of school that day to wacth, LOL.

Howey if I can get a dig camera I will snap a few photos of the event, it is quite a sight to see. The creek is quite small on average. The rainbows that come out of there are quite the opposite. I will do my best to get some of the action recorded for you guys.

The DEC shocked Catherine Creek yesterday and they found a lot of fish.
