We were up at the lake with a pile of kids with hopes of fishing for lakers on saturday. With the rainy morning we revised the plan and stayed in the river for walleye's. Fishing was very good for most of the day. Set the kids up with lindy rigs and live minnows. We ended up with a pile over the slot and a nuts load below the slot , and the right amount for a fish fry for dinner.
I was very encourage by the amount of fish under the 14" mark and that they are all going back, and even though we are allowed one over 18" we have always had a boat rule they go back regardless. It was good to see that this amazing fishery won't collapse since it wasn't far off at the pace it was going.
Sunday we went for lakers. Once again they found a way to humble us. But on a positve note my daughter caught a 37" pike and it didn't let her down with the fight it put on. We did manage 2 lakers. And no we never got out of the boat to shore fish.
We were marking lakers all over the place , and still shallow. We just couldn't convicnce them. This time they were full of cisco's.
Next weekend were off to the Gorden lake road area for lakers. Fishing seems to pick up in the one lake we go to in June. Then perhaps for brookies in the stocked lake there .
