I hope it turns out to be a splake so all you people with your mind set that is is definitely a Lake trout, can go with your tail between your legs, and rethink your fish ID knowledge and get off this guys back! >:(

How about this.. DId they clip any fins on stocked lake trout in 1998?  my guess is no!

 Guess again .

That was a great fish, maybe not a splake but it sure got some input on here. It was enjoyable reading all the guesses and the scenarios that went with it.

It's interesting to know that the hatchery that raises splake, also raises togue. Having seen both in their juvenile stage, I can see where they could get mixed up at one time or another.

I guess that they can grow more in that time period than some thought .;D

I agree it has been a great thread and a great chance to learn about splake. I think that Joe was the one that was right... IF&W put a few (20) retired brood stock females into this lake for ice fisherman back in the 90's. At least that is what the word is now on how this fish got into the lake. Kinda cool to think that this one has been in there without getting caught this whole time.

Definately also think this was a great post. The suspense of a possible state record unfolding on a day to day basis was awsome ;D ;D

...must be the fault of those baitfishers transporting those broods from one body of water to the next.
SURE blame it on the bait guys.  ;D ;D Guess its better than moving around crappie or bass.  :-\ :-\   ;D ;D
