? Shanty and mice

Now that the icefishing is slowing down for some of us, I've got a question. What should I do to my shanty so the mice don't chew holes in the frabric?

As I don't use a shanty, I can't swear that this works but I know guys that put dryer softener sheets in their shanties over the summer (and boats over the winter) and they swear it helps keep the varmints out.

I would give mothballs a try.

I used mothballs in my permanent shanty and it kept the mice out. I'd give this option a try!

Mothballs is definitely the way to go.....had a Summer home for 23 years and when we closed it down for the Winter we scattered mothballs all around the house, and in the drawers where we kept bedding/clothing.
Never had mice in all those years!!! Try it....it works!

The problem with mothballs is you've got to kill hundreds of them for enough mothballs to do any good. Besides, they're soooo tiny.

I like the piece of cheese/ lawn chair/ beverage/ .410 method.
Tried moth balls but found them hard to get. The mothes weren't cooperative at all

Spearmint oil that cooks use works good and dont have that bad smell that moth balls leave for months after you use them.

Don't know how your shanty cover is attatched but I take mine off and store it in a Tupperware type container.

We are always worried about using mothballs and rat poison for fear the birddogs or kids will accidentally injest the stuff.
In the RV circles we travel in, we learned that dryer sheets work to defend against rodents.
We have been using them in our RV and they really do work. No rodent problems at all (knock on wood)!
Just put them in cupboards, on the floor in corners, in drawers, in the registers, oven, microwave, furnace, around plumbing, etc. Basically anyplace you think a mouse might like to nest in or enter your shanty from.
