Good man!!

FYI, the recommended best stainless for marine applications (especially saltwater) is 316 and if you can find 321, even better.

Just because it says, "stainless steel", doesn't mean it won't corrode and/or rust.
Look at the garbage "stainless steel" they use in propane grills.
Sure, they last longer than a painted steel grill, but they still corrode.

Thanks for the information, Mac.

I don’t think the shag rug bunks had stainless steel bolts:

Moving on to the trailer. I think the bones aren’t as strong as I thought. Need some TLC. Bolts are snapping when I try to remove them, so we are taking them all off. More work than I wanted it to be but I don’t need to be ready until next open water season.

you're going to feel a lot of security when you go down the road with that trailer knowing that everything is as it should be. You're going about it the right way. Next year when you see one of those other guys broke along the road you will thank yourself.  Keep going the way you are and enjoy.

Amen!

Great comments!

I would inspect and repack the wheel bearings with new marine grease.  And install new seals!!!  Maybe even new bearings.  At least inspect them for cracking and signs of overheating (blueing and other discoloration).
New tires too.
And get a spare if you don’t have one.

Great job so far.

I planned on new bunks, bearings and tires. This is turning into extreme makeover, trailer edition!

When you are finished, you will know every inch of that boat, motor, and trailer.
A labor of love.
You will have tons of pride, and also be comforted knowing it was done right.

BTW, here's a HUGE tip.......................................you're never done remodeling a boat.    ;)

Enjoy!

I’m learning that Mac.

Noticed a few of the cross pieces broke on the inside floor. Will look into how to reenforce vs replace.

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend!

Take it to a local weld shop.
Cheap fix really.
And it will be done right.
Might only cost you $50-100.
Also, doesn't cost a dime to ask them how much.
Go in with some photos and ask them.
Good luck.

Thanks Mac. I have a few places to call after the holiday. I had two choices: Tuen a blind eye or have it done right. I am going with the latter
