New York State and World Record Perch

Check out this 5lb 8oz monster. Caught from Cayuga Lake and verified by the DEC. Yes that's 5 lb 8 oz.

I've been working and lurking and waitin' for the ice.

The really cool part is, this fish was caught by a kid off a dock...the way a record should be set.

Do you guys realize this fish breaks the longest standing freshwater record EVER? The former record was from New Jersey, and was caught way back in the 1800's....don't remember the exact date. Was there a length given on that beast?

I guess I didn't really pay much attention to the pic!  :P Have you guys ever even heard of a perch nearing the 20" mark?  :o  :blink: The size of that thing is just staggering! 26 flippin inches!

The biggest one I have ever caught was 17-1/2 inches. Then my Dad caught one 17-3/4 inches in the exact same spot exactly one year later (within 2 hours!).

Way to go kid!

that really is remarkable!! this kid cant understand how truly spectacular his catch is. he will someday!! congrats to that boy...  ;D

That the state record came from Cayuga doesn't surprise me one bit.... but the WORLD record!?!?!?  Holy cow, little guy!!

About 15 years ago, my brother and I used to take a trip up to a small bay just north of Troys Marina for the opening day of pike season.  And every year, we caught at least a few 15" perch using heavy 4" red/white spoons.  It really is a great fishery, if you can stand throwing back all of those darned pickerel that you catch.
