Goldeye
« on: May 23, 2010, 05:14 PM »
If anyone is looking for Goldeye, they're going WILD right now at Lockport. Insane even......a bite every cast. Can't believe it actually took me 3/4 hr to catch mine; too many brain cramps I guess. Nice sized ones too, about 12" average. Was fun for the 1st day out.

Pickerel Rig under a bobber with either worms or minnows pieces(tail part works best).

fsmanmb,
Do you float the pickerel rig at mid water or near the surface, or do you  have it on the bottom and just use the float
to keep it up and avoid the snags? ???

Use the bobber so that you can adjust the height that they are biting best at. Usually they bite best 2-3 ft below the surface but I've found the odd time a bit deeper. Heck, I've even found them biting so high that I've actually had to have the bobber clipped to the pickerel rig. I know guys will catch the odd Goldeye with the rig sitting on the bottom but it will never be the fast & furious action that higher up is; that just seems to be where they feed normally. Once you find the depth they are biting best at, away you go & have some fun. Unfortunately sometimes they bite so good that you have what you need in quick order & the fun ends,LOL.
Hope that helps.

Cool, thanks for the info, fshmanmb. 8)

I will have to try the pickerel rig near the surface for them sometime.

The few goldeye I have caught have been on small in-line spinners and spoons.
